[Iwaizumi often came back home to visit when he was off duty to let his Pokemon relax. They deserved it after all, they spent the last week rescuing Pokemon stuck in caves, helping baby Pokemon who were separated from their mothers, stopping fights between territorial species, and even had one call about a little girl's Skitty stuck in a tree. Though he could pick anywhere secluded to relax, something about home was better for his own spirits too.]

[He sent a ping to Oikawa's Pokenav some days ago to let his childhood friend know of his traveling plans in case Oikawa was also nearby. Iwaizumi didn't hold his breath though, he'd rather Oikawa concentrate on his own journey so he kept his message short. It was true he missed his friend, but he didn't have to say that in the text.]

[There was a stream they used to play by, so he stopped there to let his Pokemon out. He found a rock to sit on and slid off his ranger vest. Were those footsteps he heard? Iwaizumi turned his head towards the sound.]

[Oikawa has found that he is not the biggest fan of caves. They're slimy, they're icky, they've got too many zubats. He's got a pretty good system going where he drenches himself in repel, Hajime lights his torch and then he hits the few zubats brave enough to power through the repel fug on the head so he doesn't need to get his pokemon involved. Efficiency is key.

He's been travelling alone for a while - two months! - and apart from the occasional incident it's going well. But it's just... caves. So he's covered in cave things when he exits. Also repel. Which smells delightful.

It's times like these he wishes he had a water type to hose him down, or a flying type to cart him off to the nearest town. But no.

Squinting into the sunlight he spots someone. Though his eyes are too busy adjusting to the new light to see any details, he waves hello. He can't be rude even if he has just come out of a hell cave.]

[Sugawara's stuck in a rut, as a trainer. He's gotten to six badges, but pushing further than that is proving to be quite difficult. Honestly, he's a lot better at Double Battles than Singles, which is likely part of the reason he's struggling. Still, he needs money soon - he'll have to challenge someone and not lose.]

[A grand total of two badges at age 15, an athletic little guy for sure. He wants to be a strong trainer that can sweep his opponents' teams swiftly like his idol.]

[... It's not that Oikawa gets lost in cities. They're just needlessly complicated, is all. And it's getting late and he wouldn't be doing this... except his vulpix (Hajime) is cranky and refusing to get in her pokeball or walk.

So he's carrying her in his arms. Which is just making finding his way seem even harder.

And so, what he's doing is asking for directions.

He taps the stranger on his shoulder - he looks like a trainer so should know where he's going, right?]

[ it's not that nishinoya's pokemon are badly trained, but they just happened to get some of his natural, hyperactive demenor after spending so much time with him. it happens. really, no big deal.

[Brilliant day, filled with sunshine, Hajime trots demurely at Oikawa's heel for once - though he keeps glancing down to check that she's not going to bite - and it feels like his luck is holding out.

He was intending to get to the next town over before nightfall but with the weather as it is walking for an hour after dark wouldn't be bad. So he's taking it easy and exploring as much as he can, occasionally passing through the long grass to find a pokemon or two for Hajime to take down.

But, oh! A trainer. He'll be much better experience.]

Hey-yo~! [He jogs over - Hajime picks up her pace to follow which is a miracle.] Want to battle?

[ Reasons Akaashi really shouldn't have let Bokuto lead the way through Ilex Forest: they're now lost, and he refuses to admit that they're lost. The reason that they've passed by the same four times now is because all these trees look the same, okay. ]

I know where we're going, Akaashi! [ He insists, shaking the hand he's holding Akaashi's in. As the older of the pair, clearly it's Bokuto's responsibility to take care of Akaashi! (Except it's not. It's definitely the other way around.)

Once they arrive at another fork in the path, Bokuto looks left and right before choosing a direction for them. ] Let's go this way! [ Tug tug. ... Never mind the fact that Bokuto is still leading them the wrong way, and getting them more and more lost by the decision. ]

[He finally convinced Oikawa that they would be okay to travel separately a month ago, and it was great, for the first two weeks. Now he's reluctantly missing having companionship so when he sees a boy with a tent on the side of the road, he attempts a smile and approaches.

This isn't Oikawa: he can afford to be nice.]

[Suga, at this age, is only 12. But he's been steadily working on his team, as well, and he's been getting used to being a trainer. He's gotten a few badges as well by now. He's not far off when he overhears an excited kid gushing over... something.

When he wanders over, Audino at his side, he smiles to see a younger trainer looking victorious after a battle.]

[Sugawara is 17, has six badges, and has been stuck on trying to progress further since then. Lately he feels more like a Bird Keeper or Daycare Assistant...]

[What Oikawa's trying to do... well, that's a secret. But he's got all his badges, made it to the end of victory road and then right back down.

Mostly what he's doing is saving money, for what reason? Again, a secret.

And what's the best way of getting money? Challenging unsuspecting trainers to battles! So when Oikawa spots the pokeballs on this guy's belt it's with a smile that Oikawa approaches.]

Up for a battle? [The vulpix at his side probably looks harmless enough but he's had her a long time now.]

[ it'll be in the aftermath of a double battle in the center of town, perhaps a tournament, when sugawara finds himself approached by an unfamiliar trainer. the calm-faced boy is around his own age, maybe a little younger, and he's dressed in a loose violet gi that seems more designed for comfort and flexibility than martial arts. ]

…Excuse me. You were battling with a pokémon that evolved from Porygon just then, weren't you?

[Oh boy, maybe gym battling is not for him. Because he's swallowing at the very sight of Datekou's gym entrance. He thinks he's ready to take it on... but that's a tentative thought and maybe he should get his Goomy some extra experience before he actually steps passed those doors. Get her nice and evolved even! But she's still a way away from evolving... and he probably shouldn't put it off that long.

He squints at a sign hanging to the right of the door. He could read it easier if he would just move closer but he feels like it might suck him right inside and into a battle if he did.

He leans forward with his feet rooted to the spot. Wait-]

The gym's closed?!

[Just as he was definitely not ready to go inside!

He steps up and knocks on the door.]

[The thing with Suga's Dusclops is... well. She's not very bright. He loves her dearly, because she's his and he trained her up from a Duskull and someday he'll give her a dusk stone and she'll evolve, but sometimes he wonders if it's not a detriment that there's only a vacuum behind those bandages.

So, he's sitting at the bottom of a very large tree with her up in it unable to get down. He tried climbing up after her but didn't get very far. Honestly, he's impressed she managed to get up with how tall it is and how far apart the branches are.

Which is why he really does have a sneaking suspicion that it was mind over matter that got her up and also mind over matter that's keeping her up there.]

Can't you just jump? [Begging with his pokemon. That's an excellent look for someone to stumble upon - and oh great he thinks he can hear just that lucky person arriving now.]

[ traveling with bokuto was always... interesting, for better or for worst. if it wasn't akaashi would have split ways with him long ago.

for example, right now. route 216 shouldn't be a difficult route to travel down or a tricky place to train. there are the hilly paths, sure, but that doesn't change the fact that the two of them are truly, unequivocally lost. why couldn't they get lost on cinnabar island, or at least somewhere that doesn't have snow getting into his boots? ]

Bokuto-san. [ akaashi says with a small sigh, wondering if there was even a point to bring this up at all. ] We've already walked through this path.

current concerns: training this tiny gible and wondering why the hell a group of murkrows keep following him around, seriously, it's been months now make them stop.

[ ...yeah, that's what akaashi's doing. say hello to a skinny kid close to nishinoya's own age; taller and dressed loosely in a psychic's uwagi and cropped pants. he's holding a poké ball in one hand, letting it hover in the air with telekinesis for a second mostly as a way to show off. the getup probably makes it hard to determine that akaashi is a boy, actually, but his flat tone of voice gives him away as soon as he speaks again. ]
