Sugawara Kōshi

[Sugawara is 17, has six badges, and has been stuck on trying to progress further since then. Lately he feels more like a Bird Keeper or Daycare Assistant...]

[What Oikawa's trying to do... well, that's a secret. But he's got all his badges, made it to the end of victory road and then right back down.

Mostly what he's doing is saving money, for what reason? Again, a secret.

And what's the best way of getting money? Challenging unsuspecting trainers to battles! So when Oikawa spots the pokeballs on this guy's belt it's with a smile that Oikawa approaches.]

Up for a battle? [The vulpix at his side probably looks harmless enough but he's had her a long time now.]

[Ah. Well, this guy looks pretty confident. He does only have a vulpix out at the moment.] Well, I battle in Double Battles. Is that alright with you?

Fine, fine~

[He doesn't have as much experience with double battles but the few he's had went well.]

More experience at different things never goes amiss.

[Hajime steps forward with a 'yip', she's definitely ready to go. He doesn't know who he'll send out beside her just yet but she's a given.]

[Well, then! Suga contemplates, but he sends out his Kangaskhan and his Audino. Both look pretty healthy and ready to fight!] Challenge accepted!

[Oikawa grins and sends out Hoshi - his Beheeyem - to hover along side Hajime. She blinks her lights on and off in what Oikawa likes to think of as battle signals and he takes to mean she's ready to go.]

Well, shall we get started? [He doesn't wait for a reply and immediately give his command to his pokemon.

Hajime: fire blast, Hoshi: Psychic!

[Suga gives his Pokémon commands, as well. Toshi, the Audino, hops closer to Mai, the Kangaskhan. Toshi: Helping Hand, Mai: Return! They're healthy Pokémon, and they're ready to take a hit or two. But the difference in levels is definitely apparent.]

[They might be at a lower level but with Helping Hand, Return hits Hoshi hard. No where near enough to knock her out but still enough that Oikawa winces on her behalf.]

No holds barred? So harsh!

Hoshi: Reflect, Hajime: Fire Blast again, get them good.

[O-oh geez, this guy's tough! Suga looks distraught, for a moment, but at least Mai and Toshi were holding on by the skin of their teeth.] Ah, Toshi, use Heal Pulse! Mai, use Rock Slide! [Heal Pulse might heal everyone, but his own Pokémon need the boost if they're going to attempt to stick this battle through for more than two rounds.]

[He is tough! So good of you to notice.

He flinches at the healing move. He wouldn't be worried but Rock Slide is killer on Hajime and not ideal on Hoshi. If it wasn't for getting that Reflect up, Hajime would be looking at getting pulled back into her pokeball on the second turn and Oikawa would never hear the end of it. At least Suga did him a favour by healing his pokemon as well.]

Nice shot, nice shot. But don't let them get the lead, Hajime: fire blast! [He catches her eye for a moment and can tell she's not impressed by using the same move three times in a row.] And Hoshi: Psychic!

[Dang... his Audino toughs it out, but Kangaskhan goes down. He replaces her with his Porygon-Z.]

Tri-Attack! Toshi, Healing Wish!

[His Audino has fainted...! And back out comes Kangaskhan, fully restored thanks to Audino's sacrifice. Sugawara isn't a strong fighter, but he is very well-paced.]

[ it'll be in the aftermath of a double battle in the center of town, perhaps a tournament, when sugawara finds himself approached by an unfamiliar trainer. the calm-faced boy is around his own age, maybe a little younger, and he's dressed in a loose violet gi that seems more designed for comfort and flexibility than martial arts. ]

…Excuse me. You were battling with a pokémon that evolved from Porygon just then, weren't you?

[ tactically speaking, it was an impressive fight. ]

[Suga's calmly healing up his team, feeding them berries and letting them rest. He glimpses up at the boy approaching him--oh, right.] I am. That's my Porygon-Z.

I see.

So that's its name…

[ the psychic trainer pauses for a protracted moment, seeming content for the time being merely to observe sugawara interacting with his pokémon. as the latter completes his feeding routine, akaashi finally proceeds to ask him his second question. ]

Sorry to bother you. But can you tell me if you know, what method Porygon-Z uses to evolve from its prior evolutionary stage?

Not exactly. It's an evolution of the original, but it doesn't like the one you have…
