Solid plan. It's easier to make sure they're getting enough attention like that.

[He actually hesitated about getting a pokemon at all when he was first a trainer - Oikawa was handful enough and needed lots more training.

He gives Haruo a little scratch on his nose once he's done picking up Iwaizumi's scent.]

Mind if I let my Trubbish out to say hi? Feel free to say no, she probably won't burp but [he shrugs] poison pokemon.

[Haruo sneezes and Kageyama puts him down, petting him before standing back up.]

You have a Trubbish? I'd love to see her!

Yeah. [He pulls her pokeball off his belt and lets her out with a flash of a smile. He'll never admit it but he loves showing her off.

She's a little shy so once she's out she waddles back behind Iwaizumi, he shoots her an amused look. She's not doing a very good job of hiding.]

[Haruo stares at Trubbish for a moment before slowly approaching.]

How long have you had her?

Damn, must be eight months by now?

[He laughs and nudges her out from behind him.]

Yo, Trub, say hi. [Things he's not mentioning: 'Trub' is short for 'Trouble' not 'Trubbish'.]

That's a really long time.

[To a ten year old.

Haruo sniffs Trubbish for a moment before wrinkling his nose. That's enough of that smell for him.]

[Iwaizumi's twelve, it seems like forever to him as well.]

Yeah, she's a good friend.

[He laughs at Haruo's reaction to her breath. As much as he loves her, he stays out of the way of her breath as much as he can so he can't blame Haruo at all.]

You planning on going for gym badges?

[Haruo makes his way back to Kageyama's feet and nudges his leg to get picked back up.]

Yeah! I wanna get seven of them one day!

[Iwaizumi grins.]

Bet Haruo will get you lots.

[And he's going to be a little smug as he rats in his bag, pulling out his badge container and opening it to reveal two whole badges that he earned all by himself.]
