[Yamaguchi leans into the touch unconsciously, only pulling back in confusion when Oikawa takes his hand away. His voice is jittery when he tries to speak, blown pupils alternating between searching the other boy's face and glancing away whenever he remembers his embarrassment.]
[Which is about all he can say when Yamaguchi's drunk and he isn't. Because technically kissing isn't what he wants. What he wants is his lips on Yamaguchi's neck and moving lower but he suspects that Yamaguchi will want to build up to anything more.]
[Yamaguchi hesitates, deliberating and obviously torn up over something. Finally after a moment's agonizing he blurts out,] It's okay...! If you want to, um...do that!!
What kind of a guy would I be if I took advantage of you? [One with a black eye from where Iwaizumi would punch him. That's the problem with outsourcing his conscience, it's able to get violent when he messes up.]
[Forgetting what happened last time, Yamaguchi peels himself away from the side of the couch and tries to press drunkenly forward, nearer to Oikawa. He's so embarrassed he can't stand to look at him, but he really doesn't feel like keeping it to himself anymore.]
...I like you... [the words are mumbled out, nothing more]
[Sorry, Yama-chan, did you say something? Because Oikawa isn't hearing anything but a loud buzzing in his ears right now. Possibly caused by his heart ramming its way up his throat and into his mouth. Have him staring blankly at you for a while.
[Yamaguchi doesn't take notice of Oikawa's silence for longer this time, mostly because he's busy replaying what he just said over and over in his head, scared of what the other boy might tell him in return. He's not quite leaning onto Oikawa, just kneeling close enough on the couch so that his knees dig into the other's legs and the knuckles of his hands brush against the sides. Yamaguchi keeps staring straight down with a red face until he realizes just how long a pause it's been: at that point, he worriedly looks up despite his embarrassment, concerned that something's wrong.]
O...Oikawa-s-san? [Yamaguchi's voice is smaller than he'd like. He feels a chill when he gets a good look at the other boy, trying to fight through the fog of alcohol for any important details. Why does Oikawa have that blank look on his face? Why? What did Yamaguchi say to set him off? What did he...]
[Oh god, he's close. Oikawa licks his lips on reflex. Tries to get his mind working again. Flushed and drunk is a good look on Yamaguchi but Oikawa's starting to think he'd believe that about any of Yamaguchi's looks.]
[Yamaguchi cringes back, feeling guilt sliver in him at the strange, distinctly not-right tone in Oikawa's voice—even if the words he's saying don't really seem to match, if he'd stop and think about them.]
[Mistakenly taking Oikawa's moving toward him as a sign that he's okay with it, Yamaguchi mumbles in obvious relief and stops drawing away at once. He's drunk and uncoordinated (and uncharacteristically touchy-feely, thanks to that), so if Oikawa doesn't stop him Yamaguchi will come closer until he's halfway in the other boy's lap while still facing him.
His forehead drops down to Oikawa's shoulder again, still ashamed but not as scared that he's done something to ruin the evening for them.]
'M sorry. I didn't know that you didn't like...er, drinking, and stuff...
[It's easier to cope with Yamaguchi moving in when he more or less expects it, so he catches himself before he tenses up. Hesitantly, awkwardly, he reaches up and rubs Yamaguchi's back in small circles.]
Yama-chan, I like you and I like drinking just fine. But can you tell me you wouldn't be uncomfortable in the morning if I did anything with you?
[Even if he started now it would feel too much like he was drinking to ease his conscience rather than to have an enjoyable evening.]
Another time we can drink together but I don't want you to regret anything. [He takes a breath.] I like you too much for that.
[Yamaguchi immediately relaxes into the touch, like he was bracing for it before being able to fully calm down.]
I like you too. [The words are, again, muffled into Oikawa's shoulder. It's probably intentional, if Yamaguchi's current redness isn't only caused by the alcohol in his system.] ...You don't need to do...uhh...d-do anything like that if you don't wanna...sorry, Oikawa-san...
[Yamaguchi is too much. Too cute, too sweet, too nice. Especially when Oikawa can feel his breath on his neck as he speaks. Oikawa tilts his head so he can press a kiss to Yamaguchi's hair. That's innocent enough, right?]
[With a shaky breath, Yamaguchi plays the words and the gentle kiss over in his mind a few times, trying to process if he's understanding events right. It takes quite a few tries before he can be halfway-sure that he is, and he burrows his face a bit deeper into the curve between Oikawa's shoulder and his neck.] You...really, it's all right??
[Did he notice the kiss? He's not saying anything or - what Oikawa expected - freaking out, so maybe not. But that's probably for the best. He shouldn't have done it anyway. Most of the time he forgets that Yamaguchi is a first year but then there are times like this where he can't get it out of his head how much growing up Yamaguchi has left.]
Not mad at all. [Some day, perhaps when they're both drunk, he'll ask Yamaguchi how he got to assume the worse of people's moods. Especially when the person he spends the most time with tells him to shut up on a regular basis.] I like taking care of you, Yama-chan. And spending time with you, with or without alcohol. That's pretty special, you know?
[Yamaguchi finally pulls away to look up at him, his expression bordering on totally blown away. It's probably a lot more comical than it would be, thanks to how red-faced he is and how unfocused his eyes are from the vodka.]
Y...You're so awesome...really...Oikawa-san... [AND THE WINNER FOR MOST ELOQUENT ROMANTIC SPEECH GOES TO–]
It does the trick though. His honesty does horrible things to Oikawa's stomach. And, for once, he believes he is being honest. He figures that Yamaguchi's had too much alcohol to come up with a lie.]
You're so cute, Yama-chan. [In a goofy, slack-jawed, beetroot, ineloquent kind of way.] I like that you think so.
Khi...! [Yamaguchi can't offer much else to that besides an unintelligible noise in the back of his throat, and his face screwing up momentarily with gratitude before he hides it by burying his face in Oikawa's shoulder. Again.
He hopes the older boy doesn't mind him being clingy and stupid like this. But he really wants to, and he almost feels like he can't help it. Oikawa called him 'cute'...not for the first time, but Yamaguchi still can't get over the fact that he actually thinks it. And he's so cool, and—who would have ever guessed something this lucky could happen to Yamaguchi?]
[Oikawa sighs when Yamaguchi buries his face again and reaches up to stroke the back of his hair. If he thinks of Yamaguchi as just using him as a convenient place to hide, he can stay calm. His initial anxiety is fading anyway - remarkably fast - but not all of it will vanish.
He's still amazed that Yamaguchi seems to have got the idea that he's a dozen times a better person than he is. That his words mean anything. A little ironic, really, he's spent so much time trying to get Yamagchi to believe him and every time Yamaguchi does catches him by surprise.] I got lucky that Tsukki-chan and Tobio were busy, didn't I?
[Yamaguchi shivers involuntarily at the touch on his hair, skin tingling all over from the contact. By the time he remembers himself and refocuses, he's completely missed what Oikawa asked him.]

You...You would really want to, though??
