[It's easier to cope with Yamaguchi moving in when he more or less expects it, so he catches himself before he tenses up. Hesitantly, awkwardly, he reaches up and rubs Yamaguchi's back in small circles.]
Yama-chan, I like you and I like drinking just fine. But can you tell me you wouldn't be uncomfortable in the morning if I did anything with you?
[Even if he started now it would feel too much like he was drinking to ease his conscience rather than to have an enjoyable evening.]
Another time we can drink together but I don't want you to regret anything. [He takes a breath.] I like you too much for that.
[Yamaguchi immediately relaxes into the touch, like he was bracing for it before being able to fully calm down.]
I like you too. [The words are, again, muffled into Oikawa's shoulder. It's probably intentional, if Yamaguchi's current redness isn't only caused by the alcohol in his system.] ...You don't need to do...uhh...d-do anything like that if you don't wanna...sorry, Oikawa-san...
[Yamaguchi is too much. Too cute, too sweet, too nice. Especially when Oikawa can feel his breath on his neck as he speaks. Oikawa tilts his head so he can press a kiss to Yamaguchi's hair. That's innocent enough, right?]
[With a shaky breath, Yamaguchi plays the words and the gentle kiss over in his mind a few times, trying to process if he's understanding events right. It takes quite a few tries before he can be halfway-sure that he is, and he burrows his face a bit deeper into the curve between Oikawa's shoulder and his neck.] You...really, it's all right??
[Did he notice the kiss? He's not saying anything or - what Oikawa expected - freaking out, so maybe not. But that's probably for the best. He shouldn't have done it anyway. Most of the time he forgets that Yamaguchi is a first year but then there are times like this where he can't get it out of his head how much growing up Yamaguchi has left.]
Not mad at all. [Some day, perhaps when they're both drunk, he'll ask Yamaguchi how he got to assume the worse of people's moods. Especially when the person he spends the most time with tells him to shut up on a regular basis.] I like taking care of you, Yama-chan. And spending time with you, with or without alcohol. That's pretty special, you know?
[Yamaguchi finally pulls away to look up at him, his expression bordering on totally blown away. It's probably a lot more comical than it would be, thanks to how red-faced he is and how unfocused his eyes are from the vodka.]
Y...You're so awesome...really...Oikawa-san... [AND THE WINNER FOR MOST ELOQUENT ROMANTIC SPEECH GOES TO–]
It does the trick though. His honesty does horrible things to Oikawa's stomach. And, for once, he believes he is being honest. He figures that Yamaguchi's had too much alcohol to come up with a lie.]
You're so cute, Yama-chan. [In a goofy, slack-jawed, beetroot, ineloquent kind of way.] I like that you think so.
Khi...! [Yamaguchi can't offer much else to that besides an unintelligible noise in the back of his throat, and his face screwing up momentarily with gratitude before he hides it by burying his face in Oikawa's shoulder. Again.
He hopes the older boy doesn't mind him being clingy and stupid like this. But he really wants to, and he almost feels like he can't help it. Oikawa called him 'cute'...not for the first time, but Yamaguchi still can't get over the fact that he actually thinks it. And he's so cool, and—who would have ever guessed something this lucky could happen to Yamaguchi?]
[Oikawa sighs when Yamaguchi buries his face again and reaches up to stroke the back of his hair. If he thinks of Yamaguchi as just using him as a convenient place to hide, he can stay calm. His initial anxiety is fading anyway - remarkably fast - but not all of it will vanish.
He's still amazed that Yamaguchi seems to have got the idea that he's a dozen times a better person than he is. That his words mean anything. A little ironic, really, he's spent so much time trying to get Yamagchi to believe him and every time Yamaguchi does catches him by surprise.] I got lucky that Tsukki-chan and Tobio were busy, didn't I?
[Yamaguchi shivers involuntarily at the touch on his hair, skin tingling all over from the contact. By the time he remembers himself and refocuses, he's completely missed what Oikawa asked him.]
[Another moment of silence and sluggish thinking. Yamaguchi eventually pulls back a bit so he can look at Oikawa's face, while very slowly the gears turn in his head. Another dull-eyed blink, a confused look; then realization sets in and Yamaguchi sits up straight again, looking devastated.]
N-No! No, Oikawa-san, I'm not trying to say something like that!
I like you, and Tsukki's my best friend, and I'm really, really happy you're here...! [The words are jumbled together and barely coherent, and Yamaguchi reaches clumsily for Oikawa's hands with his own so he can grip them tightly in reassurance.]
[Because you don't tell him that it makes you uncomfortable… 。(´へ`) 。
Yamaguchi seems like he's going to protest at first. But, at the touch on his hand he quickly settles.]
Hm? [Sorry for what?] …If you wanna go to bed now, we can, okay?
[He's not really considering his phrasing here at all—if Yamaguchi was going to go to sleep, surely Oikawa would want to do the same now instead of staying up by himself, right?]
[Well, that's!! A really good point and he should think on that! But at the moment he's got a cute drunk boy asking him to bed. So he has a few other things on his mind. He swallows.]
Yama-chan should be more careful about what he says. Unless he really does want me to take advantage. [He leans in fractionally before remembering that is a really bad idea and if he didn't feel bad about it on his own Iwaizumi would kill him if he ever found out Oikawa did. And Iwaizumi always finds out.]
Do you have a spare bed or futon? I can sleep on the floor if you don't. [A not at all obvious subject change.]
Wha…? [Yamaguchi only blinks in incomprehension, leaning in unconsciously toward Oikawa as well before the latter pulls back. Looking chastised for no discernible reason, Yamaguchi draws back into himself again, fidgeting.
…Oh, right! Futon. Bed.] Ah. Yeah, um…i-in my parents' room. There's an extra futon there. Probably oughta be fine…
[They'll have to put it down next to Yamaguchi's on the floor; he doesn't have a Western-style bed.]
[But 'showing' means getting up and helping, right?? That's what Yamaguchi takes it as, standing up after Oikawa a moment later. He does a pretty good job of balancing, too, all things considered.]
All right. Um, this way! [OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS yeah no there's only one hallway to go through to get to the bedrooms and 40% of it is unsorted laundry anyway, watch your step]
[It really is like Iwaizumi's place! He takes note of a few items, trying to decide which of them are Yamaguchi's and which belong to the other members of his family, but mostly he keeps an eye on Yamaguchi, though he seems to be doing a good job of navigating though it on his own.]
[Moving with a little less coordination the longer he walks, Yamaguchi heads into his parents' room (which looks to be in the permanent state of not-quite-tidiness that signals its inhabitants are coming and going too often to really clean) and slides open the closet. The futon's tucked into the back, and he has to catch on the wall for balance as he tugs it out. Luckily the bedding is wrapped in a sealed bag so no dust will have gotten in.]
Here, Oikawa-san~! [He looks absurdly pleased with himself as he hands the futon over.]
[Oikawa tries not to take in too much of Yamaguchi's parents' room, or at least not look like he is. It would be hard not to pick up on the unlived in state of it, and it makes Oikawa want to introduce him to Iwaizumi's family to get him on their list as someone to show affection, Yamaguchi could use more of that even if he does get on with his parents. Kind of funny that he'd easily introduce Yamaguchi to them but introducing him to his own parents is far less important. He thinks Iwaizumi's family would like Yamaguchi.
He takes the futon from Yamaguchi with more haste than possibly necessary, he'd really rather Yamaguchi wasn't crushed under a futon if his balance gives up.]
Come on, Yama-chan. If you show me where your room is you can go clean your teeth and wash up, okay?
[That smile is a delight though, he wouldn't mind seeing more of that.]

His best friend doesn't show him affection this easily.]
Just so long as I shouldn't be trying to get Tsukishima to take over.
[He's still almost waiting for the penny to drop for Yamaguchi that Oikawa isn't someone he wants to be around.
He sighs, shakes his head. So much for not getting into anything when Yamaguchi's drunk and he's not.]
I'm sorry, Yama-chan. [He squeezes Yamaguchi's hand.] Let's get you into bed.
