[ By all appearances, Kenma is just an errand-boy taken in by Nekoma because Kuroo is fond of him. He clearly doesn't have much to bring to the table for fights, and he certainly doesn't do any work for them. He's shit for the socialite side of things, and doesn't seem intimidating in the slightest. Kenma has no interest in correcting these misconceptions.

Ever since he befriended Hinata, he seems to spend a decent amount of time around Karasuno's territory, sometimes using it as an escape from whatever errands Kuroo is trying to make him run. Kuroo seems to use him as a means of keeping their relations positive, but it's beneficial to everyone. ]

[Yamaguchi isn't really paying much mind to his surroundings, when he walks into one of the backroom areas that isn't being occupied with his satchel and some papers in hand. His intention is to clean up the place a bit before the evening, since there was a poker game in here the night before and there might be another one tonight, and then get some studying done—he's already set down his things and started gathering scattered chips off the floor when he notices Kenma sitting in a nearby armchair, causing Yamaguchi to nearly jump out of his skin.]

Geh! When'd you get here!? [He nearly freaks out for a minute more, before Kenma's face clicks into place in his mind; Yamaguchi's seen him around here before. Wasn't he part of a rival gang, or something? Should Yamaguchi be concerned, or was it the same deal as last time with him being Hinata's guest/ambassador person?]

[ Kenma is sitting sideways in the chair with his legs over one of the arm-rests. He doesn't seem bothered by the interruption, which is probably... a little bit alarming. But he takes his time to finish up whatever he's in the middle of doing on his phone before actually looking up. ]

Maybe an hour ago. Is Shouyou here? [ He only sounds mildly interested in the answer. He's going to stay either way. ]

Huh, Hinata? ...No, not yet, sorry! He's out with Kageyama right now. [Yamaguchi...probably doesn't need to specify, doing what.]

Sorry if we've kept you waiting. Do you want me to look for one of the others?

No, it's alright. I thought it would be nice to talk to him if he were here, but it's not like I'm supposed to be here or anything. [ Things not to admit to a mob: that you slipped in unannounced and unplanned. Oh well.

He looks over Yamaguchi, trying to remember his name. It looks like it takes him a moment, since Yamaguchi doesn't stand out as much as certain other members, and Kenma hasn't spent that much time around them, yet. Still, eventually a look of recognition flickers across his face. ] It was... Tadashi, right?

You're not? [His feeling of unease steadily increases, especially when Kenma turns those unnerving eyes of his on him. The guy's supposed to be just another underling in his own organization, like Yamaguchi, so why does he feel so off-balance with him around?] Y-Yeah, I'm Yamaguchi Tadashi.

And you're Kozume-san with Nekoma. I remember seeing you with Hinata that one time, he talks about you sometimes.

Just Kenma is fine. Formalities are a hassle. [ Kenma waves a hand in the air to dismiss his question, like it's not important why he's here, then turns back to face his game while they talk. ]

... Does he?

Er...okay, 'Kenma.' [It's a bit weird, but this guy is clearly weird himself, and Yamaguchi's learned to just go along with that by now instead of questioning it (openly, at least).]

And yeah, he does! The other day, I heard him wondering out loud if 'Kenma was enjoying work, lately.' [Meeting the latter one-on-one for the first time, Yamaguchi thinks now he understands what Hinata meant by it.]

I never enjoy work. That's why it's called work.

You...You've got a point, I guess.

[But if he hates it, then why be in a gang? Maybe he'd done it for the same reason Yamaguchi did.] Aren't you and Nekoma's boss supposed to be friends?

Well. [ Grudgingly. ] Yeah...

Shouyou is so weird. He seems to actually like working.

You kidding? He loves it. [Hinata practically busted down the doors to be here.]

[ Kenma rolls his eyes at the mere concept of how much energy Shouyou has... ]

What about you?

Huh? I like it, yeah. I'm not very good at a lot of the work like the others, though.

[Not yet.]

Then I think you'll get good. A lot of people are forced into this sort of thing, so if you actually like it, you'll do well.

[ He's not really trying to be nice, it's just sort of an observation. ]

Uh, hold on. 'Forced into?' [! ...?] That's not how it is here!

[He really, really hopes that's not how it is at Nekoma, either.]

Yeah, I can tell. That's why Kuroo wants to stay friendly with you guys.

[ If you only listened to Kenma's usual complaining, you would think that Nekoma forces people, but that's not really the case. ] I just mean there are a lot of groups made of nothing but people who had nowhere else to go and got trapped.

[Yamaguchi relaxes a bit, still prickling with nervousness at the thought. That would suck.] I'd definitely hate that kinda work, if it was with a group like that.

[Hinata barely pays attention to the politics of it all, and really just sees it as a chance to hang out with another friend of his. When he catches Kenma at the bar, he practically leaps into a seat next to him.]

Oi, Kenma! You're here again.

[ Kenma actually pauses to look up when Hinata plops down next to him. He nods his greeting back. ]

Oh, Shouyou. Yeah, Kuroo was being demanding, today. [ Really that just means: asked Kenma to do literally any simple task. ]
