You may or may not have heard that there was a Unovian band called "Koffing and the Toxics" doing a tour around Kanto and that they happen to be in town right near where you are, but what would likely catch your attention the most was that the leader of the band happens to be one of the Gym Leaders of Unova...
If by chance you go looking for her, you'll find that it looks like this chick Roxie here is apparently about to take a break at the moment from doing sound checks, as the concert won't be starting for another hour or so and the crowd of prospective fans hasn't gathered here yet.]
Alright, sounds great! When the time comes, we're totally gonna be rocking these guys outta their seats! [Aww yeah] I'm gonna go look around a little more, so everyone be sure to meet back here before showtime! There'll be a penalty if you're late!
[The other members clear out or are busy with their instruments, so maybe now you could try to approach her...or just stare until she notices you, your choice. XD]
[ Red's not that big into music, but he's definitely big into gym leaders, so you'd better believe he'll be hiking up to Viridian to check out the big performance. A gym leader! All the way from Unova! That's like another country, practically!!
...And he's Red, so of course he gets the time wrong, which is why he's out here so early before the show is set to begin. He'll fidget around the plaza for a while, trying to catch glimpses of the performers on the stage, but there's not much going on. For a while they seem to be doing something complicated-looking with the speakers and he doesn't want to bother them, but then one of the members breaks away from the others to do her own thing. What could it hurt to say hi? ]
H-Hey there! [ And have an awkward, uber-enthusiastic mess of fourteen-year-old boy running your way! ] I'm Red! Um, sorry to bother you, miss, but do you know of a girl named Roxie? I don't know what she looks like, but I've heard she's in this band, and she's a gym leader from the Unova region! I'd really, really like to meet her!
[Oh, wow, you are a mess. At first Roxie's kind of surprised and just kind of going "what..." at this kid before she seems to get what's up--even if he doesn't seem to know her by appearance, the fact that he's apparently heard of her is pretty sweet.]
Wow, someone sure is enthusiastic... [But after a second's pause, she cracks a grin anyway as, without much warning, she gives Red a little less-than gentle thump on the shoulder.] But hey, enthusiasm's not a bad thing to have! I like it!
[She then jabs a thumb at herself now.] If you're looking for the gym leader, then yeah, I know her--in fact, you're looking right at her! I'm Roxie, the rockin' gym leader of Virbank City! Nice to meetcha, Red!
[ The shoulder thump catches Red a little off-guard, or maybe he just has a weak constitution - either way he stumbles back a bit, looking more surprised than anything.
Then her words catch up with him and then he smiles, pleased at the small praise. Then her other words catch up with him and he's suddenly blushing like an idiot because oh wow that is a GYM LEADER we are talking to oh gosh we are not prepared for this what do we saaaaaay- ]
Y-You're Roxie? [ dokidokidoki ] Wow, um, o-oh my gosh, that's so awesome, I can't believe I'm really - that is - um, I'm Red!!
[Pffft] You already said that, kid...but hey, like I said, it's always cool to meet an enthusiastic fan. [Of her music or battle-wise, really. Also your doki is kind of cute in a dorky kind of way. She adjusts her guitar that she's still carrying, before she grins again.]
So, how can I help ya, Red? Are you here for a battle or something?
A battle? [ sorry we got lost in your eyes for a second there- ] I, um, I didn't come for a battle, actually - b-but if you'd like one, that'd be totally cool too! I don't mind!!
Then stop apologizin' already, didn't I say you didn't have to be so nervous?
[Sigh] Try to relax a little more--I wouldn't want one of my fans fainting before the concert even started! [A slight pause as she moves one of her hands absentmindedly on her guitar, riffing a few seconds of music on it as she thinks.] Anyway, I still got time to kill before then, so is there something else you'd like other than just meeting us, like an autograph or...
[You already said you didn't come here for a battle, so is that what you'd like instead or something else?]
I-I won't faint! Sorry. Uhm, well, do you mind telling me about your gym? Like - Like the types of pokémon you use! I bet you're a really strong trainer...!
Of course--I am one of the gym leaders in Unova, after all. [Wow Roxie don't be so smug, but okay, we can brag about how cool our gym is too.] And my brand of venom is...well, the poison type!
[She then plays a short riff on the guitar again to accompany what she says next.] A little poison in your days, a little poison on the stage! Infecting the world with our toxic skills~!
Well duh! We're the world-renowned band, "Koffing and the Toxics", delivering shocking performances to regions everywhere! That's why I won't take no for an answer--you will stay here for our concert so you can see it for yourself, got it? [Not that Red would have left anyway, right--]
[...Cute. Roxie opens her mouth to say something else, but then someone (a bandmate from the looks of it) is calling out to her and they have a back-and-forth for a second. ("Hey, Roxie!" "What? Can't you see I'm talkin' to a friend here--" "Huh, what fri--augh, nevermind that's not the point, the show is gonna start soon!" "...Time's up already? Man, that was quick...")
And then she's turning her attention back to Red.]
Well, looks like you'll be seeing it sooner than I thought! Here, come over this way--!! [And then she's grabbing Red's wrist and is now proceeding to pull him along towards the front of stage, where the audience is meant to stay so that she can take you over to where she thinks the best spot should be! (Try not to die of dokis Red before we get there)]
[ What was that you said about not dying of dokis? BECAUSE ROXIE IS HOLDING OUR HAND EEEEEEEEEE- oh god we can't breathe too much doki how is this lady so cool and amazing Red can't handle it ]
[Roxie is oblivious to Red's dokis at the moment as she pulls him over to a place to stay, front and center of the stage. (Causing a couple of fans that have arrived now to shout loudly about Roxie being there, but she pays no mind to them at the moment)]
Here, this is the best spot to be! You'll get to feel the full blast of the music from here! [She then lets go of his hand.] The concert's gonna start soon, so don't move from here--you wouldn't want anyone else to take your spot, right? [And before he can actually answer--] Right!
[She then starts to walk away and leave him there, but then she stops and turns back around.] We can talk more if you want after the show's over--don't go anywhere, Red!
[ Red is oblivious to the other fans, to the stage, the rest of the band, even--as far as he's aware it's only him and Roxie out here right now, and there's nowhere else he'd rather be. If she's looking closely when she turns around, she'll probably see the little cartoon hearts blinking in his eyes. Dokidoki levels at critical max and rising! So cool so cool and a GYM LEADER and she's actually talking to us - ! ]
Don't - Ah, d-don't worry! I won't go anywhere, I promise!! [ Belatedly, he starts nodding at her like his life depends on it, so fast that some of his dark hair falls into his eyes. It's just as well; maybe it'll take the edge off that horrendous blush. ] I-I'll be right here when you get done!
[Roxie pauses momentarily, actually noting the blush...n-no way, he's obviously just that starstruck, not that she blames him for being so. She just grins in reply before she disappears through the crowd, where she can be heard telling people to move out of her way so she can get up onto the stage.
After a few minutes of nothing happening, the stage lights come on as a voice announces--"All the way here from the Unova region, the world-renown band, Koffing and the Toxics!" as the curtains rise, Roxie in place with her guitar and other bandmates on their own instruments.]
Hey Kanto, ARE YOU READY TO ROCK!? [crowd cheering] Then ya better stand back, 'cause we're gonna knock some sense outta ya!! THREE, TWO, ONE!
[And then her band starts playing their loud rock music and oh gosh Red I hope your ears can handle this... XD]
[Enjoy that hearing loss, Red. A lot of her music is pretty much what you'd expect a rockstar to sound like, though it sounds like they like singing about how cool Pokemon are, especially the poison type. At one point, when Roxie spots him in the crowd during a particularly impressive jam on her guitar, she actually gives a wave at him.]
[ Well, we are a stupid sheltered hick so we don't know what a real rock concert is supposed to sound like anyway! Or smell like, judging by all the odd fumes in the air Red hasn't noticed yet because he is ROCKING TOO HARD TO PAY ATTENTION. All he knows is that this is basically the coolest thing ever--man, if only Brock or Misty were here to enjoy it with him, they would love all the loud music and dancing business--
W-Wait a second dokidokidoki d-did Roxie actually just wave?? At US?? Red flushes scarlet and wastes no time jumping up and down like a total idiot, waving back with every muscle in his skinny stick-arms.
The people around him just laugh. Looks like this kid is really getting into the concert... ]
[Pffft wow, you sure are overenthusiastic, it's actually kind of adorkable. One of her bandmates whispers something about it too, but she just waves them off to tell them to go back to concentrating on the set. Even if it does take some willpower to not start laughing too, but she manages to keep a straight face (albeit still with that teasing grin) as she continues to keep playing and finish the current song, which ends with a nice and dramatic finish.]
[Pffft what an adorable cheerleader...and one of the bandmates might have actually said that too to tease her with but we will totally not be teased by that. (Besides, after all, we are the greatest okok) In fact she'll totally prove that it just pumps her up even more to have people cheering for her to try to keep playing!
Roxie does a jump, fist pumped into the air in triumph, her version of a bow.]
YEAH!! ARE YOU READY FOR A LITTLE MORE VENOM IN YOUR SYSTEM, KANTO?! THEN GET READY TO JUMP RIGHT OUTTA YOUR SEATS WITH THIS ONE! [Roxie there isn't even any seats here--MORE LOUD ROCK MUSIC AWW YEAH]
[...Oh, Red. She notices, but doesn't make it obvious as it looks like she's concentrating on the set. (But she is a little glad that you don't seem to have gotten hurt too badly...)
Now she's moving onto another song...and then another one... (Yeah, concerts are prone to having a lot of songs sometimes, get used to it Red ^^;;) until eventually it looks like she's winding down to her last song--and, of course, she's going all out for this one, making sure it sounds as bombastic and dramatic as possible.]
[ Red cheers with all his heart throughout the concert, until his voice is too hoarse to continue. Even then he'll jump up and down enthusiastically in time with the beat, dancing with the people in the crowd. He does get knocked over a few more times, but he's not a bad dancer when he remembers to watch out for the people around him.
He never takes his eyes off the stage, though. Pure adoration!! Dokidokidokiiiiii- ]
[Keep it up she does, right up until the climatic finale that nearly shakes the lights from their fixtures above with the intensity of the power of rock! Once they're finished, they take a bow to the sound of the clapping and cheering audience.]
Alright!! Thanks for coming, but it's time to get this show on the road--if you'd like to see us again, then you'd better keep following us on our tour to the next city! We're "Koffing and the Toxics", and we're here to add a shock of poison to your system! [The crowd cheers some more before it finally starts to disperse, some people leaving, some moving over to one side as if hoping to get autographs from the band. She leans down to quickly indulge a couple of people by signing their things before she steps back--but then she notices Red and makes a "follow me" gesture towards the other side of the stage where there's less people; if you don't want to get trampled and want to keep talking with us, then come right over this way!]
[ Red's watching Roxie the whole time, with the same starstruck puppy-dog look as ever--although he's a little less vocal about it now, with his throat still sore from cheering during the concert. This kid does not do anything in moderation.
He hangs back after the concert like she asked, of course, even if he's too much of a pushover to shove through the other fans lining up for autographs. When Roxie beckons, Red's face will light up, nearly tripping over his own feet in his haste to get to the side of the stage. ]
Rah- [ he winces, clears his throat, and tries again in a slightly raspy voice ] -Roxie, wow, that was, ahck, incredible--you guys were so good!
[Wow Red, where does all that enthusiasm come from. Roxie actually starts laughing at that.]
Thanks--you were doing some pretty hard rocking out yourself. [Meaning yes, she saw how silly you looked during her concert. She passes over one of the available water bottles for him to take, since he sounds like he could really use some water now.] I think you need this more than I do, in fact.
[ Red finishes gulping down the rest of the water, offering her a weak smile before he answers. ]
I - um, I-I think so? [ Going to a live studio taping of Professor Oak's Pokémon Talk doesn't count, right? 'Cause that was way boring. ] ...B-But yours was still the best, I'm sure of it! You guys - you were so good!
Heh, thanks. You should see what the concerts are like towards the end of the tour--they can be pretty intense! [A slight pause, before she adds] Plus, you should see us perform back in Unova too sometime; that way, you'll be able to check out my gym in Virbank too!
Duh, of course it would! My gym is the best! [Or maybe that's just a personal bias that most gym leaders have about their own gyms.] Plus, I'm curious to see what kinda Pokemon you've got that could go up against mine--being from Kanto, I expect them to give us an interesting challenge, got it?
[ Red's about to say that he couldn't possibly pick a favorite gym, they're all his favorite - but then he picks up on the challenge in her words and perks up, suddenly looking more than a little competitive. ]
