[ It almost feels like old times, except they couldn't afford coffee, plush seats and their own office building back then. So maybe not, but at least the presence of bread is constant. ]

Good to know. [ He says, half-jokingly. Sugawara sometimes worries about what the future has in store for them and their sanity, but he'll leave voicing out those concerns to Asahi. ]

But seriously, take a break. I can cover your work for a few days, and I can ask Narita and Kinoshita to guard you if you're worried about your life.

[daichi shakes his head, standing next to suga at the coffee machine, watching the dark liquid spill into the pot. it was almost like old times, with the bread and each other, but every new luxury came with a price.]

I don't know if we have time for a break. [ he cracks his neck, taking another bite of bread. ] Seijoh's really been on the move this week, and that can't mean anything good.

[ out of all the gangs in the area, seijoh was the one they got along with the worst, especially after stealing kageyama from right under their noses. daichi would rather feel a little overworked and ready than caught off guard from some ridiculous move.]

[He studies Daichi's face carefully and frowns.]

I know that. Do you actually think we stand a chance against them when you're tired and overworked?

[Eventually the gang will have to go on without them, but right now there's no one else who can lead the gang like Daichi can.

Sugawara makes his way to the couch across the room, casually placing his half-eaten roll on top of paperwork like it's a carefully coded message (it's not, it just seems like the cleanest place to put it when there are no plates... and Sugawara's a little too upset to care), and sits down with his arms crossed. ]

I'm not asking you to take a full blown vacation. I just want you to get some rest.

I'm fine, really. You don't have to worry about me.

[ he shoots suga a lazy smile, because he's just a little overworked, not so much tired. it's not like it was back in the old days where he could barely sleep because daichi was too worried about someone getting hurt, or their place being broken into, or any number of generally horrible scenarios. compared to that, this is nothing. ]

[ Since when has those words successfuly made anyone worry less? ]

Tch.

[ The situation is different than before. There's more to lose than just their lives now. Since being taken off the front lines, Sugawara has had more time to imagine all the horrible future scenarios, all while trying to keep everyone's morale up.

Shoulders hunched and fingers folded, he rests his elbows on his knees. ]

Seijoh's assault will be more powerful than Wakunan's.

[Summing up his worries in one sentence!]

[ he can try!!

it's seeing suga hunched over on the couch that, voicing his worries that bring another wave of exhaustion through him. suga's right - seijoh has more members, more ammunition, more resources than karasuno and wakunan's combined, not to mention oikawa is one ruthless bastard. he could take advantage of any number of weaknesses in karasuno and sweep the rug out from under them in no time flat.

daichi waits until the coffee is done, pours two mugs, bringing one over to suga and keeping one for himself as he sits down on the couch next to him. this might not count as a break since they are talking about work, but they have to take what they can get. ]

I know, we all know. But at least with Seijoh it's easier to guess when something is going to happen. No matter how hard they try, their movements and member changes always show signs of it. Not to mention body counts... [ he lets out a long breath, takes a sip of his coffee before pressing on. ]

I have Nishinoya and Kageyama keeping their eyes on them.

[ tanaka and hinata as well, but that goes unsaid since they're joined at the hip to their respective friend. ]

[ He mumbles thanks as he grabs the mug.

He really didn't want to talk about work. His plan was to get Daichi to rest, do some of his work for him, and feel like he did something that actually mattered for once. Not that his job as a liaison of sorts ins't important, but he's sick of seeing his comrades get hurt from the sidelines. ]

Send me out. [ He blows the steam off the top of his coffee. ] Use me like you used to.

[ Sugawara hasn't been on the front lines for a while. His weapon might be less sophisticated than the sniper rifle Kageyama ordered, but it's well maintained in case he was needed.

also get your mind out of the gutter. ]

[ daichi raises an eyebrow because one, yes, that line would send anyone's head to the gutter, and two, it had been a long time since suga was so straight forward about wanting to be out again. ever since their gang started growing, both of them had been more in the shadows, pulling strings of operations or attending meetings with other gangs, not so much guarding on the front lines. it worked, but it wasn't fun for either of them. ]

Alright, but not tonight. [ he's not sure where to put suga right away without throwing off other plans, or without scaring gangs. the town knew him for his experience and the blood on his record, and oikawa personally hated the hell out of suga. to put him back out there would take a little bit of finesse.

plus... ] I'll go out with you. [a beat, a suddenly more teasing tone.] Unless you'd rather go with Asahi?

[ daichi really just wants an excuse to go out himself. ]

[ He takes a long, noisy sip of his coffee. That bitterness is strong enough to knock the melancholy out of anyone, and it even affects Suga's smile. ]

Not tonight. I haven't given up on making you take a break. [ This isn't a break, this is a serious work discussion. ]

Oikawa wouldn't know who to hit first between you, me and Kageyama. [ Oikawa was never subtle about his hatred towards Sugawara, though he was never direct about it either. It's just something that everyone knows from the day Sugawara got his own nickname from Seijoh's head. There's a chance that sending him out might distract Oikawa from targeting Kageyama or Daichi first, because god knows not even staying away from the fight would keep Daichi safe from Seijoh. If Oikawa wants to drag them all in it, he will find a way to drag them all in it. ]

So I wouldn't mind running errands [ to put it lightly ] with you again. Or Asahi.

[ Just like old times. ]

[ daichi cracks a smile, realizing that if suga still hasn't given up on this, there's no way he's getting out of it. suga was far too stubborn for that. ]

You should talk to Kageyama about it then. You two could come up with something devastating. [ two tacticians are far better than one, and while suga knows the ins and outs of what everyone at karasuno can do, kageyama knows everything that seijoh can do. he even knows some of their security details, or at least, what kind of schedules people have. they were going to have this match one way or another, and it was better for them to have all their pieces in all the right places.

he drinks his coffee, and tries to think of what kind of errands they need to run. ]

We have a shipment coming in from Ukai and Takeda pretty soon. I think the three of us could go say hi.

[ He places the mug on the coffee table. He looks at Daichi excitedly. ]

Can we test those shipment afterwards?

[ For everyone's safety, of course. Hopefully they're guns and by test he means going against Seijoh together.

Too much to ask? ]

[ aw. suga was cute when he got all excited, but that means he's all the easier to tease. ]

Don't tell me you're doubting the stuff Takeda gives us now.

[ Why does Daichi's smile make him feel like he fell into a trap? ]

There's nothing wrong with checking things every once in a while.

[ maybe he has? maybe he hasn't? maybe daichi is just going to steal another piece of fluffy bread!

and by maybe i mean yes ]

Then when we go, you can ask to use his shooting range.

[ Damn it Daichi, he'd give away bread if he asks properly. Don't just steal. ]

And if I want a moving target?

[ but it's more fun this way ]

It sounds like you have something in mind.

[ He's a grown man who leads his own gang. He should be buying his own bread. ]

I want to shoot Oikawa in the face.

[ And snatch that bread back. ]

[ rude suga, he thought they were friends. friends who can totally steal bread from each other. but he lets suga steal it back, only if it's because he barks out a sudden, dark laugh. ]

You, me, and everyone else in the gang does too. You'll have to wait your turn.

[ And he bites on that bread too. If Daichi wants more, he can pick up that passive-aggressive "still mad at you" bread on his desk that Suga left earlier. ]

I've waited long enough.

[ maybe later. for now, he's too busy studying suga's face, trying to make sure he isn't letting anger and impatience get in the way of thinking straight. it happens to the other new recruits constantly, especially when they talk about seijoh, and he doesn't need sugawara getting distracted too. ]

Soon. The pieces are almost in place, we can't go rushing in until we're ready.

[ their new connections in tokyo with nekoma and now fukurodani have given them loads more space to move good around, to get what they want and when they need it, not to mention it helped to work with some of the best from time to time. they were all ready now for anything seijoh could throw at them, if only they knew what weird tricks were up the other gang's sleeve. ]

[ He watches Daichi watching him. He's aware of how petty that sounded. But after the injuries sustained against Wakunan and Tanaka's friendly fire incident, Sugawara has too much pent up anger with no place to go.

Sorry, captain. ]

But take me with you if you go out. No one needs to know.

[ That he might be hundreds of meters behind him... with a sniper rifle. ]

Deal. [ he agrees to that condition easily enough. it's not like he's going out and about to deal with seijoh or the police or anyone dangerous very often, so the chances of suga really having to worry over was low. he takes a long sip of his coffee, finishing the mug and putting it down on the table. ]

I was serious about talking to Kageyama, though. You two making a two sniper perimeter plan would take a lot of worries off of everyone's mind in the future.

I'll be on it as soon as I can. I sent Kageyama and Hinata to check on some things. Some people from the market say that they've seen people who look like they're from Seijoh. [ Kageyama can confirm whether or not that's true, and identify them if he has to, but he can't get too close to them due to his previous affiliations. That's what Hinata's for.

He tries finishing off his coffee, but it's too bitter for his taste. He stands up to search Daichi's office cupboards for sugar. ]

Them too? Narita said he spotted some fishy looking people nearby too. There must be something up.

[ daichi smiles, holding down a laugh in the back of his throat. ] It's in the left one.

[ He takes the granules between his fingers and tastes it. Yep, it's sugar. It's not a prank and he dumps a copious amount of it on his coffee. ]

Why are you smiling?

[ What's so amusing about potentially getting infiltrated by Seijoh as they speak? ]
