[ He orders two cheese pastas before sitting down. It's too early for drinks. ]

Hello, Kageyama. Are you used to everything yet?

[ He's willing to hand over his old position with the gang to Kageyama if he's up to it, but Sugawara has to take the job himself if Kageyama isn't. ]

[He nods, feeling only a little awkward about taking over his predecessor's job. If Sugawara seems alright with it, then he's probably okay to keep doing it.]

I'm getting there.

[The biggest change was that Karasuno actually felt like a family rather than a collection of people with specific skills. Honestly he likes this better, and this way he isn't in a position where he could be ordered to kill Hinata.]

[ Sugawara hasn't given up fighting, not yet. But the lives of people are at stake so he can't afford to be selfish. He doesn't begrudge Kageyama for it.

Two plates of pasta are served, one for him and one for his junior. He doesn't waste any time digging in on his. ]

That's great. Is it different from your old gang?

[ And does he have lingering feelings for his old gang? Because that might be an issue later on. ]

[Kageyama stumbles over a polite thank you before starting in on his plate.

Kageyama's not exactly the sentimental type. His old gang was his old gang, he might have had issues if they were still on the same team- but that's not how it is. This is this and that is that as they say.

But he chews thoughtfully as he considers his answer. Karasuno feels like a family? Seijou seemed to hate him? He decides to go with the easy and honest answer of:]

It's different.

[ All things considered, that's a better answer than he expected. At least Kageyama feels comfortable enough to eat with him as Sugawara assessed the possibility of sending him against Seijou. ]

And how is it working out with Hinata?

[He startles, dropping his fork onto his plate. He was pretty sure he wasn't that obvious. He likes the guy (maybe a little more than he should), he's a good runner.

But this is Sugawara and he's scarily good at noticing things about people. It's a skill Kageyama's never quite been able to pick up.]

I-It's working.

[They make a good team, Kageyama covering his back to ensure everything gets delivered and nobody touches their best runner.]

[ He covers his mouth with his fist as he laughs. There's a world of difference between Kageyama's first answer and his second one, even if they were just as short. ]

Then you wouldn't mind if I send Hinata with you tonight?

[It's not that he minds Hinata's presence, it's weirdly reassuring. Though he hasn't quite figured out why- he should be annoying, he should be unbearable- but he isn't. But-]

What are we doing?

[Hold on, let Sugawara wash down that forkful of pasta with a few gulps of water. ]

There've been rumors that one of Oikawa's men has been seen loitering around [where they were earlier]. They say you'll know him from his distinctive hairstyle. I want you and Hinata to check it out.

[He'd send just Kageyama,but if Kageyama can recognize this invader, then that person must be able to recognize him too. At least Hinata can get close enough without triggering as much suspicion, and Kageyama can keep guard from a safe distance... and try to keep Hinata in line.]

[He scowls for a moment- but yes, he can do this. His ties are in Karasuno and Hinata, this is fine by him.]
